When Fear Tries to Decide Your Future
In a world that moves faster than our nervous systems can keep up with, fear often becomes an unseen barrier disguised as caution, wisdom, or perfect timing. It quietly interrupts our confidence and delays our decisions, convincing us to choose comfort over our calling. In reality fear often signals that growth is near and transformation is asking for our trust.
One of the questions shared in the episode Power Down The Anticipation Of The Worst was simple, but it carries weight:
“What outcome have I already decided was inevitable?”
So many of us are living from conclusions we formed years ago. From moments where something didn’t work, someone left, or the timing didn’t align. Without realizing that fear causes emotional disturbance and says: “Let’s manage expectations so it doesn’t hurt.”
And before we know it, we’re not trusting in God anymore but we’re trusting in the worst.
One of the most misunderstood forms of fear is anticipation. In the episode, I shared how anticipation often disguises itself as procrastination, when in truth, it is avoidance. Moving in a new direction can feel threatening to the mind; so threatening that we begin to turn on ourselves. Self-condemnation creeps in, blurring the line between intuition and resistance, until we no longer trust what we’re sensing and mistake fear for wisdom.
Remembering Who You Are When Fear Speaks
At the core of this conversation is authority. No matter how long you attempt to run from your true position, there is an authority placed on your life that fear cannot revoke. Fear may speak loudly, but it does not get the final say. When we forget who we are, fear fills the silence. In the same way, when we remember, fear loses its influence. This is why connection with God isn’t optional. The consequence of fear is that we become separated from God. Our connection to God keeps the truth of who you are louder than the fear you operate in.
Appointed Times Are God's Promise
One of the most grounding reminders in this episode came from Habakkuk 2:3—what has been revealed has an appointed time.
Not a rushed time.
Not a forced time.
An appointed one.
Waiting on provision does not mean you misheard the promise. And timing definitely does not invalidate the promise. Yet when we allow fear to influence the path, the delay becomes a product of our own internal doing. Fear only manipulates us to pause even when God has already confirmed what is coming. The challenge is learning to move forward even while the how and why is unfolding; trusting that the promise is already at work, unseen but unshakable.
If you’re in a season where things feel slow, unclear, or unfinished, I want you to hear this gently:
You are not disqualified because fear showed up.
The invitation now isn’t to rush what you don't understand but to focus on realigning to your appointed promise
.
To ask: What would it look like to move without needing certainty of what has already been promised? How is this situation looking to shift me to my appointed time?
