Pauses Are Portals, Not Problems: The Hidden Magic in Slowing Down
Has your pause in life ever felt like failure? There were more moments than I can count when momentum slowed, and I’d panic. When doors didn’t open fast enough, I’d assume I did something wrong. Somewhere along the way, I learned to equate stillness with stuckness. But here lately, I’ve been learning something softer. My pauses are not punishments. They’re portals. Each one has opened me to something I couldn’t have reached if I had kept forcing forward.
We love to talk about growth, alignment, healing, elevation; You know all those words that sound like forward motion. But what happens when growth tells you to sit down?
When healing says, “Stop producing, start feeling?” That’s the part that shook me . Because our culture praises consistency more than consciousness. We’ve been conditioned to believe that being still means we’re losing progress. When in reality, stillness is often where the real progress happens.
Pause is where you meet yourself without the unnecessary performance. It’s where clarity can finally catch up to your movement. But most people miss this clarity because it's too quiet and possibly too still. I used to believe delays were punishment. Fast-forward to the other side of delay and I understand it to be divine protection. Many times, the universe will interrupt your rhythm not because you’re off track, but because you’re too aligned with an old track. Your soul understands that, “We can’t keep building here. It’s too small for where we’re going.”
So what looks like a setback is really the Divine's way of saying:
“This pause is preparing you for a version of peace you’ve never experienced.”
I began to look at pausing as a portal of transformation. Portals to self-awareness.
Portals to peace. Portals to divine redirection. A pause doesn’t mean I’m losing momentum but instead an invitation to move with more intention. And that’s the shift I want you to feel too.
If you’re in a pause right now, take a moment to write or meditate on these:
-
What story do I tell myself when life slows down?
-
What’s trying to shift within me through this stillness?
-
Where might this pause be preparing me to pivot?
